With the Portuguese premiere of 'Berlinguer - the great ambition', in the presence of director Andrea Segre, the 18th edition of the Festa do Cinema Italiano opens in Lisbon on Wednesday. Organised by the cultural association Il Sorpasso with the support of the Italian Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institute of Lisbon, Cinecittà and various Portuguese institutions and private companies such as BNP Paribas, Fiat, Mapei and Generali, the main event dedicated to Italian cinema and culture in Portugal will begin in the capital from 9 to 17 April, before moving on to more than 20 cities across Portugal.
As usual, this year's event will dedicate ample space to contemporary Italian cinema with the presentation of more than 50 films including feature films, documentaries and short films, most of which will be screened as national premieres. This year's main titles include "Follemente" by Paolo Genovese, "Diamanti" by Ferzan Ozpetek, "Vermiglio" by Maura Delpero, "Un altro ferragosto" by Paolo Virzì and "Il tempo che ci vuole" by Francesca Comencini. In the competitive section, dedicated to first and second works, the directorial debut of Michele Riondino, "Palazzina LAF", Giovanni Tortorici with "Diciannove", produced by Luca Guadagnino, and "Familia" by Francesco Costabile will be in competition.
Amidst many other proposals, this year the Festa do Cinema Italiano celebrates the deep bond between Marcello Mastroianni and Portugal with the special section "Pereira sono io!", a journey through cinema, memory and visual imagery that pays tribute to the unforgettable Italian actor.
Luca Marinelli, Antonio Piazza, Fabio Grassadonia, Francesco Piccolo, Roberto Faenza, Alissa Jung and journalist Giulia Innocenzi will be some of the main guests in Lisbon.
