The First Conference of Italian Schools Abroad 'Growing in Italian' opened this morning in Rome, at the Maxxi Auditorium, with the participation of over 200 representatives from Italy's educational institutions active abroad and from the Italian Education System in the World (Sfim).
The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, who emphasised that Italian schools abroad represent a key tool for Italy's cultural diplomacy, recalling their central role in promoting Italian language, culture and values around the world - he also recalled the centrality of education and training as pillars of the Mattei Plan and priorities of Italian development cooperation.
In the course of its three thematic sessions, the Conference will delve into priority themes such as educational innovation, institutional partnerships, and the enhancement of the Italian university system, offering a concrete opportunity for discussion and proposals among the players in the sector.
The initiative is a prelude to the 5th edition of the Stati Generali della lingua italiana del mondo, which will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, on Wednesday 16 April.
This week's events are part of the Government's commitment to strengthening and promoting the Italian language in the world, in view of the International Conference on the Italian Language scheduled for the autumn of this year.
