The first edition of Art Week Riyadh, 'At the edge', a reflection dedicated to contemporary art in Saudi Arabia, speaks Italian with the curatorship entrusted to Artistic Director, Vittoria Matarrese, and realised by the Italian company Black Engineering, known in Saudi Arabia for important projects such as the Biennial of Islamic Art in Jeddah, and with the participation of Galleria Continua from San Gimignano, which is exhibiting some iconic works at the exhibition.
"For the first Art Week in Riyadh, I imagined a curatorial landscape that would put the Saudi art scene in dialogue with a selection of international voices, foundations, galleries and private collections. A project conceived between history and the future, where local practices and international gazes intertwine to explore the horizon as a space of possibilities," commented curator Vittoria Matarrese upon meeting the Italian Ambassador to Riyadh, Carlo Baldocci, at the opening of the exhibition. "Art is a strategic pillar of the partnership between Italy and Saudi Arabia," the ambassador emphasised, "as also demonstrated by some significant agreements signed last January on the sidelines of the Prime Minister's visit. The patroness of the event was Princess Adua al Saud, who among other things heads the Saudi Society for the Preservation of Heritage.
