A 22-year-old deaf-mute man was
arrested by the Carabinieri police after he allegedly stabbed to
death his 60-year-old mother and set fire to the home they lived
in together in Montepiano, near Prato, early on Tuesday.
The emergency services arrived at the scene after they were
called when people saw thick smoke coming out of the house.
Firefighters put out the flames within minutes.
Once inside the house, they saw the woman's lifeless body on the
ground.
Italy has been hit by an alarming spate of femicides.
