The pope's tomb at Santa Maria
Maggiore (St Mary Major) can be visited from the morning of
Sunday 27 April, the day after his burial in the Roman basilica
he was so fond of, the director of the Vatican press office
Matteo Bruni said Thursday.
Francis, who died on Easter Monday aged 88, always prayed to the
Virgin Mary at the basilica near Termini Station before and
after his trips abroad, at a shrine portraying the Virgin as the
protector of Rome.
His simple coffin will be buried in the ground near the shrine
on Saturday in a ceremony attended by many world leaders and
global religious figures.
